Information about Introductory Embodied Yoga Principles workshops
With Vidyadasa (Ady Griffiths)

Embodied Yoga Principles is a way of practicing yoga which emphasises self-awareness, to create qualities and skills for the whole of your life.

Yoga postures / movements / stillness can help you create change in your life. It is less about general health to make what you do on your yoga mat more relevant for the rest of your life: your friendships, relationships, family life, study or work life, or whatever your focus or passion may be. It is very practical.and

wellbeing, or how long your hamstrings are, and more about how can Yoga help you lead a meaningful engaged life.

An Embodied yoga workshop often includes a combination of elements

  • ‘outer’ practice - social, ethical, engaging, playful, connecting and fun

  • ‘inner’ practice - deep, reflective and absorbing aspects of practice

It can be emotionally intense, because it is a powerful tool for looking at your personal patterns.

It includes sharing of personal experience - in pairs, small groups or the whole group, all of which is optional and only with your consent. At the beginning of a session we make an agreement to maintain confidentiality.

The element of sharing is an important aspect of Embodied Yoga Principles, as it allows the insights you experience to be communicated and shared (which can also help others). It can also help you focus on setting and declaring actions you wish to take in your life.

It includes some regular hatha yoga postures (which you may be familiar with if you practice Yoga)
practiced with different emphasis, and specific Embodied Yoga Principles postures, and will include a short meditation.

There are a variety of 24+postures to explore qualities and aspects of life, including:

  • openness

  • saying YES and NO

  • giving and receiving

  • creating clarity

  • containment

  • standing up for things you believe in

  • Focusing and entering into life

  • private and public - postures with a more personal, inner, private quality, or more outward, public - taking space / being seen

  • resting

  • surrendering

  • supporting (yourself and others)
    and
    many more…

Please note: the practices can be powerful, and may not be suitable if you have current mental health issues, are suffering intense life
stress or in some other emotionally vulnerable position please talk with Vidyadasa before signing up to see if the day is suitable for you now.

It is possible to choose not to do specific exercises/processes, and it is best to communicate in advance for your well being and safety.

“Embodied Yoga is a refreshing take on yoga as a method of self-enquiry and transformation. Highly effective for transforming your patterns of behaviour.”
– Sindre, Oslo, Norway

“Embodied Yoga offers a much needed fresh authentic perspective on yoga. It's not offering an opportunity to float off into spiritual la-la and distance oneself from life’s suffering, on the
contrary it encourages the participant to become fully aware and to take responsibility for what is going on in their body and mind, becoming aware of patterns and shadows in a safe supported environment.”  -Jane D, Sussex UK
